Teacher killed in stabbing attack in France

According to French officials, a teacher has been killed and two people have been injured in a knife attack at a school.

The attack took place at the Gambetta high school in the city of Arras in the north of the country at about 11:00 am local time.

The attacker has been arrested and is in custody. It has also been reported that his brother has also been arrested.

The attacker is believed to be in his 20s and of Chechen origin. It has been reported that he was known to security services due to his involvement with radical Islam.

French media is reporting that he was a former pupil of the school.

The anti-terror prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into what it described as "attempted murder in connection with a terrorist enterprise"
