CTP North East takes responsibility for Hartlepool murder probe

With the support of Cleveland Police, Counter Terrorism Policing North East has taken responsibility for leading a murder investigation following an incident in Hartlepool at the weekend.

Police officers from Cleveland Police were called to a property on Wharton Street, Hartlepool at 5.20am on Sunday (October 15) following reports of a disturbance at the property.

On arrival police found a man with non-threatening life injuries, who was taken to hospital. A second man was found on nearby Tees Street, with police since confirming he died at the scene.

A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and remains in custody.

Head of CTP North East Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley said: 

“Although our enquiries are still at a very early stage, the circumstances surrounding this incident have resulted in Counter Terrorism Policing taking the lead for this investigation."
